Four appellations, four very different days
Provence is not one wine region but several, and they taste nothing alike. The Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence produce the rosés the region is known for, alongside serious reds. Cassis is a tiny white-wine appellation squeezed between the sea and the cliffs. Bandol, just east of Marseille, is Mourvèdre country and makes the most structured reds in Provence. Châteauneuf-du-Pape, an hour and a half north, is another world again. Which day suits you depends less on your schedule than on what you actually like drinking.

Château La Coste — Aix-en-Provence
A Coteaux d'Aix estate as known for its contemporary art and architecture as for its wine. The visit is a guided hour through the estate and its vineyards.
Château La Gaude — Aix-en-Provence
A family-owned château and the alternative on the same day: an hour through the estate and its historic cellars, followed by a thirty-minute tasting.
Domaine Font des Pères — Le Castellet
Bandol appellation, the most structured reds in Provence. Guided tour of the estate and vineyards, tasting, and a Michelin-starred restaurant on site.
Domaine de la Gardine — Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Run by the Brunel family for more than seventy-five years. A cellar visit and a tasting of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the appellation that made the southern Rhône.
Château Minuty or Château de Pampelonne — Saint-Tropez
Côte de Provence rosé on the Riviera side. This one is an optional stop on the Saint-Tropez day, and the tasting is paid at the estate.

Wine is a component of these rather than the purpose, which matters if a tasting is the reason you are booking. Both are longer days.
Le Castellet and Cassis — Bandol tasting included
A coastal day through Le Castellet and Cap Canaille that includes a guided visit and tasting at Domaine Font des Pères, in the Bandol appellation. 6 to 8 hours.

The Aix-en-Provence day, if you want the rosés the region is known for and a serious estate to walk through — Château La Coste combines vineyards with contemporary art and architecture. Choose Châteauneuf-du-Pape instead if you drink reds and want the most famous appellation of the southern Rhône. Cassis if you want white wine and the sea. There is no single best day here, only the one that matches what is in your glass at home.

Yes, for three of the five days on this page. The Aix, Cassis and Avignon days run 6 to 8 hours and are built around your all-aboard time. The Saint-Tropez day is twelve hours and does not fit a port call — we say so rather than sell it to you. The Castellet and Cassis day fits a longer call.
More than its reputation suggests. Bandol, east of Marseille, makes the most structured reds in Provence from Mourvèdre. Châteauneuf-du-Pape, to the north, is a Rhône appellation of considerable weight. Cassis is a white-wine appellation almost entirely, on terraces between the cliffs and the sea. Rosé dominates production, but it is not the whole story.

Two things to know before you plan around it: the day starts from Marseille or Aix and runs twelve hours because of the drive, and the tasting is an optional stop paid at the estate. We do not offer departures from Cannes or Nice.
Two, usually, and occasionally three on the Aix day. Fewer than a coach tour would promise, deliberately: a guided estate visit and tasting takes about ninety minutes if it is done properly, and Provençal country roads take the rest. Three rushed stops make a worse day than two unhurried ones.
